How to rank on Google faster
Quick SEO wins for businesses and professionals: what you can improve this week, what takes time, and which shortcuts are best left alone.
Everyone wants to be on the first page of Google, ideally by tomorrow morning. The honest answer is that there's no magic button. But there are a few things you can improve this week, and sometimes they move your rankings faster than you'd expect. This guide covers them, along with what to stay away from.
Start with what almost works
The fastest way up Google usually isn't building something new. It's improving a page that's already close. If a page of yours shows up on the second or third page of results, it has already shown Google it's relevant. A small fix to its title, description or content can push it forward. Google Search Console, Google's free tool, shows you exactly which searches your pages appear for, and in what position.
Five quick wins
| What to improve | Why it helps | How long it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Page title | It's the first thing Google and visitors read | Minutes |
| Page description | It affects how many people click your result | Minutes |
| Content that answers the question | Google prefers a page with a clear answer | An hour or two |
| Loading speed | A slow page loses visitors and ranking | Depends on the site |
| Complete business details | They help Google match you to local searches | Minutes |
One thing to keep in mind: after you make a change, Google needs time to crawl the page again. Sometimes days, sometimes weeks. That's normal.
A title that sounds like your client
People don't search for "advanced legal solutions". They search for "employment lawyer in Manchester". Write your titles in the words your clients actually type, and put the important part first. Give every page its own good title, not one title for the whole site.
What not to do
Shortcuts look tempting: buying links, stuffing keywords, copying content from other sites. Google spots all of them, and the penalty can be a sharp drop that's very hard to climb back from. Real progress on Google is built on good pages that answer what people are looking for. It takes a little longer, but it lasts.
How UXellent handles this
Every page on a site built with UXellent comes with its own title and description from day one, plus tidy business data that Google and AI tools like ChatGPT can read. The site is fast on every device, so that's one less thing to sort out. And when you want to sharpen a title or rewrite a paragraph, you just ask in the chat, or click the text and edit it right there. The change goes live straight away, with no waiting for a designer or a developer.
